The CT-S 550 S, which was released 1 year later, is largely identical in construction, but it had 2 fewer Dolby S chips (backband control without Dolby S) and its retail price was 150 DM lower. Drive, equipment and exterior otherwise coincide. Both devices at times had the same instruction manual. The CT-S 550 S was built until about 1999.
The drive was not from Pioneer , but from ALPS (such as the Denon DRM-650S )
