Designakustik Schäfer specifications

In 1992, the physicist Norbert Schäfer, who became famous for his developments for Phonogen , ATL and later for Translife , founded the company Designakustik Schäfer . This company was a manufacturer and supplier of high- and low-frequency loudspeakers, as well as developments for the Munich-based ATL Elektro Akustik GmbH, and also a manufacturer of its own series of loudspeaker boxes. Since the presentation of his first exponential horn made of concrete, which had been designed by the designer Holger Scheel, the developments of Norbert Schäfer had always shown a sophisticated design. When, at the turn of the decade, from the eighties to the nineties, more and more design-oriented products were competing for the favor of buyers in the HiFi scene, Norbert Schäfer, in addition to the high-end speakers of the Trans family, which he had developed for ATL , began with the conception of loudspeaker boxes of a very special design, which, however, did not have to meet the highest tonal demands. The first speakers from the pen of the developer who followed this idea are likely to have been the ATL 911 presented in 1992, which was still equipped with the speakers built for the Trans family.

In the same year, the production of the Pictor, Strato r and Skulptor design boxes began, which Norbert Schäfer released under his own name. One success was the victory in a HiFi design competition with the Sculptor in 1993.

The Schäfer design acoustics remained an interlude. In 1999, Norbert Schäfer founded Translife GmbH to take the high-end series Trans into a third generation.
