  • Stereo 4/1997: Stereo test verdict: 3 stars, Excel lent. "The new MD scale: ATRAC 4.5 ensures an extended frequency response, converter technology is the first cream.
  • As well as the processing and the all-over equipment with a digital level controller." (Quote stereo leaderboard 1998) - Until the replacement by the bfbf89b7d6a46780ad66e312a0464047 in 2000, leader of the stereo leaderboard
  • Audio 6/1997: Top class, sound 85 points (analog 85 p./ digital 85 p.), 5 ears. For a long time, the leader of the leaderboard and also the most expensive model
  • The "smaller" Sony MDS-JA 30 ES also has many parts like the entire drive . Also applies to the display, potentiometers, click switch. In principle, the entire front panel, as well as the control boards (drive starboard, etc.) is identical to the Sony JA 30 ES. The structure from the Sony JA 50 to the Sony JA 30 IT is almost identical except for the separate power supply. You do a few little things like in some places copper screws instead of metal screws. All control cables connecting motor circuit boards are identical. The Sony JA50 IT is built more materialistically from the case and other trifles such as foam between the buttons and LED...
  • Conversion measures Sony JA50ES and Sony JA30 ES:
    • The JA50 ES and the JA 30 ES, both can be converted excellently with newer OPA technology. For this purpose, the 8 operational amplifiers JRC2114D each have to be exchanged on the audio board (DA>AD and Rekord Analog > Digital) board, against TI OPA2604 from Burson and Braun BB. Link: http://www.ti.com/product/OPA2604 (Please note that the lower audio board of the JA50 is not identical to the one of the 30 series) The OPA2604 of the OPA 2132AP and AD712 are already installed on the Sony JA50. However, these chips should be exchanged for new ones with the same name after 20 years.... The result is phenomenal and hard to believe, not recognizable sonically with an enormously high resolution behavior and a super CLEAN and dynamically precise sound!!! TI (BB) seems to have reworked the chips over the years. Alternatively, the OPA LM 4562 NA (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm4562.pdf ) very good to install, these chips have a higher dynamic range and less noise. In the original configuration of the OPA's, the JA50 is analytically very detailed from the sound image and the JA30 is more musical and warm from the sound image! the audio board of the JA30 can also be installed in the JA50.

  • Service Manual for the Sony JA50IT is available here: https://www.manualslib.com/s/sony+mds-ja30es.html (Same with the JA30 ES)
  • Attention ⚠️ Important note the laser Sony KMS 210, which is in the Sony MDS 30/50 ES,, is not suitable for recording so for recording in the long run, this will be too hot! Therefore, the player should only be used as a playback device.... The MDS 930/940 QS is suitable for recordings, this reckorder is suitable for long-term use for years!
