Funk Tonstudiotechnik develops and manufactures audio systems for analog and digital recording studio technology. The aim of the developments are, in addition to high reliability, devices with excellent sound characteristics such as high dynamics, clean frequency and phase response, lowest distortions and spectral purity in signal processing. The consistent use of state-of-the-art technology and forward-looking, mature developments as well as the use of the best components make this possible. Each device is assembled by hand and tested with the same precision test equipment that is also used in the development. In sum, this results in durable, cleanly processed devices, the functionality of which is built so logically that their operation is self-explanatory. Symmetrical precision power supplies in low-drop technology with high efficiency or precision switching power supplies result at the same time in very low power consumption as well as a far-reaching independence of the internal supply voltages from the quality of the mains power supply. The production of the devices is carried out in Germany, professionals rank them among the best in the world.
Thomas Funk, born in 1951, completed an apprenticeship as an electromechanical technician at Telefunken in Berlin. He attended the Gauss Engineering school and then another technical school. At first he developed measuring instruments for Siemens , later he moved to Sony Germany. This was followed by a time as a house technician in the audio recording studio, at the same time he made service for various Berlin musical instrument shops and repaired amplifiers. During this time, in the mid-70s, he was already building and developing devices at the customer's request. in 1978, the expansion work on the own recording studio began, in 1980 the Funk recording studio was opened on Sonnenallee in Berlin. Funk also developed his own equipment for this studio, as he was not satisfied with the quality of some studio equipment that was common at the time. Examples here are a correlation degree meter of the highest accuracy and a novel master section for the Soundcraft TS24 mixing console. This master section was also built and installed in small numbers for friendly studio colleagues. Funk already lost the fun at his own recording studio in 1981, when the "Neonbabies" separated from the singer Miko under unpleasant circumstances during their recording sessions there. He retired from studio operation and again engaged in the development of audio circuits. The young company "Funk Tonstudiotechnik " had its breakthrough in 1989, when it received an order from Sony Classical for an eavesdropping matrix that existed only as an idea. It was only with a pencil and a sheet of paper that Funk convinced the Sony people of his concept, which was delivered as a finished device 3 months later: the audio monitoring System - Sony , AMS-S for short. With this, it was possible to distribute 16 sound sources to three pairs of speakers. On this basis, the "MTX monitor" was created a few years later: an amplifier and summing device in quasi laboratory quality, which is many years ahead of comparable products and is constantly being further developed. Measurement results prove that to date (2013) no manufacturer in the world offers a comparable amplifier with better audio data. No matter at what price. This is interesting because the development is already well over 10 years old. As a rule, HiFi magazines do not test Funk devices out of consideration for their advertising customers. The same applies to the manufacturer's audio cables. According to its own statement, Funk does not produce a device if it cannot produce it better or cheaper than its competitors. This statement has not been refuted so far, but interested circles do not get tired of criticizing the sober - functional design.
