Heathkit is an American company. The company was originally founded under the name Heath Aeroplane Company by Edward Bayard Heath in 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. Until the eighties, Heathkit was the leading supplier of high-quality electronic kits, from radio to shortwave amateur radio. However, many of the devices were also available ready for operation.

The German subsidiary Daystrom GmbH, based in Frankfurt am Main, sells the devices in Germany. They only printed the front in German.

Around the year 1990 Heathkit retired from the construction kit industry. In this move, part of the Heathkit plants were absorbed into Zenith Corp. From then on, Heathkit focused on teaching aids. In 2010, they announced that they were switching back to the construction kit industry, but filed for bankruptcy in 2012.

in 2013, after some restructuring, the company re-established itself. As of today (Feb. 2024), the company has a website and presents new projects there. Including kits for amplifiers and other things.
