  • Founded in 1953 in New York City by Dr. Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon; Sidney Harman ran the company until he was 87 years old (2005).
  • In 1954 harman/kardon launched the world's first receiver (amplifier and tuner in one device) with the Festival D1000.
  • the first stereo receiver followed in 1958 with the Festival TA230
  • In the 70s, h/k built the twin powered receivers with one power supply per channel, high-quality pre- and power amplifiers (citation and signature series) until the 1990s.
