Tech nics, like Panasonic and National, is one of the trademarks of the Japanese Panasonic Corporation based in Kadoma (Osaka Prefecture), which was called Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. until its renaming in 2008.
The first product appeared in 1965, a two-way shelf speaker developed by engineers Sagamoto and Ishii. The name: "Tech nics 1". Later, the industrial designer Fuyuki Segawa, who had previously also designed for Pioneer , was added. He shaped the unmistakable design of the glorious seventies of Tech nics.
The SL-1200 turntable from Tech nics has been built over five million times by the year 2010. WORLD RECORD! It brought an entry into the Guinness Book of Records - for the longest-produced consumer product of consumer electronics. Note: This entry was unjustified, because the first SL-1200 (1972-1976) does not have much in common with the later SL-1200 MKII (from 1981). In addition, there are consumer electronics products that have been manufactured for much longer. For example, the pickup Denon DL-103, which has been built unchanged since 1970 (for ordinary users, since 1963 for professional users) until today (2024), that is, for a whopping 54 years for ordinary users. In the meantime, the Tech nics brand no longer existed after 2010, due to an economic crisis in many industrialized countries. The Tech nics brand has been present again since 2014. Under the umbrella name of Panasonic Corporation, current devices of the Tech nics brand are available at selected Hi-fi dealers in Germany and Austria.
