Accuphase Laboratories, Inc., originally Kensonic Laboratories, is a Japanese high-end audio manufacturer. The name Kensonic is an abbreviation of Kenwood KEN and the word SONIC (sound).
The company was founded in 1972 by the Kenwood founders and brothers Taichi and Jiro Kasuga. The reason was that Jiro Kasuga was not satisfied with Kenwood 's views on high end. They hired some engineers from other well-known companies, including Marantz and Luxman , and started their own production under the name Kensonic. Kenwood owned a large financial stake in the Kensonic company at that time. There were also some other connections to other companies in the early years of Accuphase .
If you compare the components of Kenwood and Kensonic from the first years, you will find similarities, for example, in buttons, buttons, dials and a similar design of the devices. The Accuphase PCBs are marked with KENSONIC. Kenwood still retained Kensonic company shares until the mid-1990s. Accuphase engineers also contributed to the last Kenwood High End L-Series from 1992, Kenwood L-A 1, Kenwood L-D 1 and Kenwood LVD-Z1, and left their mark.
The first Kensonic models were the power amplifier P-300, preamplifier C-200 and the tuner T-100. The integrated amplifier E-202 and a revised version of the 100 tuner (T-101) followed a little later. First the name for the products was taken and later Accuphase became the company name. All these devices received very good reviews in 1973 and 1974. Accuphase products have champagne-colored bezels and, in the case of amplifiers, two large analog power meters. In the course of production, devices with black anodized front panels were also offered.
The name ACCUPHASE was created by combining the prefix ACCU, accurate with the word phase. Phase is a factor in audio technology.
