Toshiba has also switched from portrait to drawer format. The result is a cute hip flask with a noble silver flair. The most frequently used buttons "Play" and "Pause" are particularly large and contain an integrated light feedback.
16 titles have space in the program memory of the XR-Z70, subtitles can also be targeted or programmed. The number of stored pieces is represented by the flashing of the corresponding memory location numbers. The program is retained for about a day even in the event of a power failure and is automatically activated when the timer is running. So you can put together your individual wake-up music for the next morning in the evening.
Two digit displays provide information about the currently running title including the index number and about the time elapsed since the beginning of the title. The time can be switched to total time or remaining time.
Of course, you can listen in on the fast forward or rewind, even via a built-in headphone jack with level control. However, the high-speed run could drive a little faster over the plate. After all, there is the title jump ("skip") for the big steps. "Auto Pause" allows the laser to remain in its position after the end of a piece. "Repeat" provides endless playback of the disk or program.
An infrared receiver for remote control is installed as standard in the XR-Z70, the transmitter unit is also included in the scope of delivery. The Toshiba player does not work with oversampling, but the amplitude-frequency response is desirably smooth despite the steep-sided filter. The writing only shows a small level difference between the left and right channels. The quiet noise should have a little more safety distance to the smallest possible signal level. In practice, however, the mechanical running noise is usually more disturbing than the residual noise from the loudspeaker. And in this discipline, the Toshiba player is one of the quiet ones.
The low-impedance outputs are also pleasing. In terms of noise immunity, the XR-Z70 can be seen and heard. Only strong errors in the information track make him jump "out of the groove", he does not take any notice of surface damage up to 800 microns in length. He passed our head sled test without misfires, he had to fit only with strong pendulum shocks.
A highly recommended device for high demands at a portable price. U. w.
