Since my last Sperrmuellfund, I have also been listening to a pair of Tannoy Eaton speakers.
The first impression: the Eatons come from the old-fashioned box design. Although the speakers are really not big, they have already caused repulsive statements from the family several times.
If you let the first bars of music play over it, the box sounds a bit musty. There are some sparkling highs missing in the sound. Only when you are in the stereo triangle a good sound comes across. The eatons radiate only forward in the treble range. The lower bass range is completely eliminated. Only from 100 Herz the music plays there. Why am I wondering. The bass membrane is buttery soft and simply does not bring any power. Ober the magnet has suffered after such a long time ? Despite its size, the speaker needs a SUB.
After listening for a long time, the positive details come to fruition.
1. The stereo impression is very good. The music just comes along harmoniously. You don't have to make an effort when listening. The sounds are easy to distinguish spatially. However, the box cannot reproduce the depth of space as well as other boxes. The musicians are positioned more on a line between the speakers.
2. The voices are not played live, but very neutral.
3. fine details are swallowed a little compared to "high end" boxes.
4. If you look at the drivers and the crossover: Real high-end quality. The embedded tweeter capacitors beat so-called MK capacitors from Mundorf . At least on this chassis.
