We are the true inventors of omnidirectional 360° omnidirectional systems. 😉
Since 1995, Klangsäulen® Manufaktur has set itself the goal of designing natural–sounding loudspeakers as natural sound systems. That is, to create independent listening opportunities, like in a concert hall, as if it were live and natural, like the source of water.
Perfect workmanship is also part of the perfect technology of the Klangsäulen®. As a genuine German precision product, each Klangsäule® is manufactured individually and by hand. All materials and components are tested several times before. The finished columns undergo further in-depth tests before they are released for delivery.

1995 Patent: Grünwoldt had the vertically installed reflection body patented. The heart of the whole system – the Campanoid. The SPIEGEL magazine reports about Phönix Klangsäulen . [read here]
In 1990, Mechow and Grünwoldt founded and built the first sound columns under "Phoenix". Even if the first product was anything but saleable in terms of design and execution, "the actual idea" convinced Steffen Grünwoldt. He closed his business and teamed up with Mechow.
1986 Rudolf Mechow presents his sound columns incl. Campanoid officially.
Sound columns briefly explained: The speaker cabinets are cylindrical, with a tweeter or midrange speaker installed horizontally at the upper end. A cone-shaped body is mounted above the speaker. As a result, the sound is radiated in all directions, which improves the sound compared to conventional loudspeaker cabinets, in which the tweeters and midrange drivers mainly radiate forward. Most models contain a second speaker chassis, which also radiates against a cone from above, i.e. there is a kind of double cone between the two speakers, which is called a "campanoid". Several patents of the inventor Rudolf Mechow exist for the construction.
Origin of the invention: In search of all-round transmission of signals, Mechow came across an illustration in a textbook from the Third Reich, with which Siemens appeared at the International Radio Exhibition 1936/37 in Berlin. This became the incentive to continue research in this direction. Siemens did not pursue this development any further for unknown reasons. With the first test setups made of the available GDR materials (e.g. Plastiline, cardboard, polyester, etc.) it became clear that he was on the right track. After completion of the prototype, it was presented for review in the circle of acquaintances and among DJs and musicians in the former GDR. The surprising positive reaction encouraged the continuation of the development. So, from 1986, the first products were made available to musicians and DJs for testing.
