Founded in 1948 by Etsuro Nakamichi as a research institute in Tokyo. In the 50s they manufactured reel-to-reel tape recorders for other suppliers, in 1957 they built their own sound heads and the first own tape recorder. in 1967, he started making cassette tapes for other suppliers, including Fisher , Elac , harman/kardon, Sansui . in 1973, the company launched its own cassette machines with 3 heads with the Nakamichi 700 and 1000 types on the market. Around 1978, the decks 58x came with a test tone generator and bias adjustment, in which the tonehead error angle (azimuth) can be corrected manually. ZX-7 and ZX-9 also had this possibility (1982). Furthermore, preamplifiers and power amplifiers as well as receivers had come into the program. in 1982, the Dragon appeared, which was able to automatically compensate for the Tonkopf error angle (azimuth) via servomotors and was built until 1993. 1984 the high-end turntable TX-1000 with probably unique plate centering, which won the proud price of more than four (!) of the ultimate cassette machines Dragon cost. The MR-1 deck was offered for the professional sector. At the end of the 80s, the Nakamichi program also included tuners and CD players. The company also entered the car hi-fi sector. in 1990, Nakamichi also had a DAT recorder - named Nakamichi 1000 in reference to the first cassette recorder - and a DA converter, the 1000p. DAT was designed as a successor to the compact cassette, but found unwanted distribution. Around 1991, Nakamichi showed his MusicBank system: CD changers that could not be recognized as such on the outside, e.g. on the CDPlayer 2. With Receiver1 - Receiver3, CassetteDeck 1/1.5 and CassetteDeck 2, this belonged to a series of devices with a new design, which were also available in silver colors. In 1993, Nakamichi withdrew from the European market. Nevertheless, the DR cassette deck series appeared (DR-1 with azimuth adjustment of the playback head). In 1997, The Grande Holdings, which had acquired Sansui in 1989 and acquired Akai in 1998, took over the company (see Wikipedia article/link). However, in 1999 Nakamichi DVD players, AV receiver AV-1/2 and the stereo receiver RE-10 were available on the German market. Of the DR cassette decks, DR-2/3 revived as DR-8/10, although now manufactured in Malaysia. the first complete Soundspace system was released in 2002. In 2014, the 7.1-AV1/AVP-1 pre-/power amplifier combination was tried to re-enter high-quality individual components. in 2017, Nakamichi -USA introduces a 7.1 soundbar and the Edge wireless headphones.
