Loudness Race refers to a phenomenon that began in the course of the 90s and led to CDs being mastered louder and louder, at the expense of tonal dynamics. This should increase the sales opportunities of the CDs. This is widely lamented because of the negative effects on the sound of the CDs, without it having led to the practice being abandoned.
