The frequency indicates how often a regular event is repeated. The unit for the frequency it is the Hz, named after the physicist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz. An event that repeats itself once every second has a frequency of 1 Hz. Events that repeat 1000 times per second have a frequency of 1 kHz.
For oscillations, the frequency indicates how many times per second a complete oscillation cycle repeats. In the case of acoustic vibrations, such as those reproduced by a loudspeaker, the frequency therefore indicates how many times the diaphragm moves forward or backward per second.
The sound frequencies audible by humans play approximately in the range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The exact boundaries vary from person to person, especially the upper one, and they also change with the age of the person.
