The Fisher 800 was the first of the 800 Receiver series. Also referred to as 800A in retrospect.
The 800 series consisted of the models A, B and C. All of them are VHF/MW receivers. The Fisher 800 (A) was first introduced in late 1959 / early 1960.

In the 50s was not received MPX Stereo is the only method of Stereo broadcasts. The Fisher 800 is able to enable the reception of stereo broadcasts with various methods. From two separately receivable signal sources provided by the radio stations. FM Stereo: the left channel is received by the own FM tuner, the right channel is received by an external 2nd FM tuner. FM/MW Stereo: the left channel is received by the own FM tuner, the right channel is received by the MW tuner. A multiplex adapter was optionally available, e.g. FISHER Model MPX-10. This adapter is required to receive multiplex (stereo) broadcasts. At that time, a new way to transmit two stereophonic channels over a single station. All receivers were offered without housing.
