I have been operating the Yamaha CDXsince 1991 550E with a Denon PMA860 Amp, connected to new Oehlbach Silver Plus RCA (0.5m) and Orbid Sound Pluto boxes. No matter which speakers have been connected in the last 16 years, the warm and spatial sound that the two main players deliver is always immediately noticeable, the Denon Amp supports the Yamaha player in its clean, warm and neutral playback, and if it has to be really powerful. The CDX 550 E accepts even burned CDs without grumbling.
Not one failure in 17 years even in times of "stinginess is cool" mentality shows that Hifi does not have to be expensive. For the 1400.00 DM (amp and CD player) paid in 1991, certainly a lot of money (for me), but in retrospect an absolute bargain. Even my new purchases (85e9ff08f186d29daf40875f980c2e43 Receiver and Teufel 6.1) for the home theater do not produce the round and (almost) perfect musical character of the Yamaha & Denon team.
