• The TC-164 SD was the best portable device from Sony
• The size roughly corresponded to that of a UHER Report tape recorder of the 4000 series about 40 cm wide
• It was ideally suited for both outdoor and Hi-fi applications
• It is similar to the little brother TC 158 SD, except for the other instruments
• Peak instead of VU meter, better sound heads and the pitch control
• The recording quality was almost on par with a sound pad
• Most of the home cassette decks from the time sounded worse
