  • The integrated amplifier Sony TA-F270,TA-F470,TA-F490, and TA-F511 are actually the same amplifier with a more gradual gradations in terms of the components used, quality of the output stage transistors and transformers. They are the continental European versions of the British models TA-F440E, TA-F442E and TA-F540E/TA-F542E plus the line/tone control stage from the slightly older TA-F420.
  • While the TA-F270 overall drops somewhat qualitatively (and is practically identical to the TA-F500 sold in Japan without "IT"), the remaining three German models are practically on one level: upper middle class. Which also corresponds to their placement in the then Sony program.
  • The British models can present themselves a little better sonically thanks to the missing line / tone control level and non-existent FTZ filters.
  • What everyone has in common is a solid sheet metal dress and a clean interior.
  • In addition, the amplifiers are designed to be easy to service and can be almost completely disassembled and reassembled easily by loosening screws and plug connections.
  • As with all Sony devices equipped with industrial-quality components, a gradual deterioration in the playback quality has become noticeable over the years, which can only be eliminated by a general overhaul(*) and is due after more than 20 years for practically every device that is offered used. On this occasion, more durable components of better quality should be installed and all Germany-Exclusive components should be removed according to the service manual. An overhaul costs about 100 € in components and takes a few hours. However, it is also worth it sonically and brings these amplifiers practically to the new "ES" sound level.
  • (*) At this point it should be mentioned that general overhaul does NOT mean the simple exchange of all electrolytic capacitors for new ones according to the watering can principle. A little more brainwashing should already be used here. It also saves a lot of coal. The service manual is available for free download from various well-known websites.
