Category : Video record player
Brand : Philips
Successor of the Philips VLP 600 and the second Laser disc picture disc player from Philips . This device came on the German market in 1982, basically had the same technology as the VLP 600, but the case and the remote control were fundamentally visually revised and adapted not only to the taste of the time, but also to the Philips CD 10 0 CD player, also released in 1982. Like all so-called picture disc players from the years up to about 1986, the VLP 720 can only process sound analogously, as was customary on the early picture discs. Nothing has changed on the analog image format until the end of the Laser disc, so this player can play all CAV and CLV discs, skip chapters, has an image feed and rewind and a quiet still image, provided they are inserted in PAL format. In contrast to later playback devices, the disc on the VLP 720 still has to be placed on a "turntable" after opening a lid, similar to handling a turntable, and also turned over by hand after the end of the first page.
