Designation for an electronic component. The term is also used for the relationship between (direct) voltage across a component and (direct) current through the component, expressed in the unit ohm.
Resistance can be clearly seen as an obstacle to the flow of current. When current flows through a resistor, electrical energy is converted into heat. As a result of this, the component heats up.
