The French 4-way floorstanding loudspeaker with the famous inverted dome in the high-frequency range was a class of its own in the price segment at that time, as was proved in various listening tests (e.g. HiFiVision ONYX spectacular test winner). The LS, which are basically built as a 3-way bass reflex construction, ingeniously include a 2nd bass chassis at the bottom, which is specially controlled by the crossover and only processes the lowest tone. The bass drivers are separated, so that both have their own working volume. This means that this lower bass chassis basically functions as a subwoofer, which additionally makes a sub superfluous, advantageously if, for example, space and costs are to be saved. Each of the two 20 bass drivers in the LS has a well-defined bass reflex tube on the back. Even a wall-mounted installation is absolutely uncritical. The fine-resolution midrange driver has a horn attachment, which helps it to radiate even wider. The tweeter is the well-known Kevlar Inverse dome from Focal . Inversely because it radiates the tweeter much wider than conventional domes due to the inwardly curved cone. Kevlar because it impresses with the lowest weight and highest strength.

The HiFi magazine STEREOPLAY attested (1989) to the Focal Temptation a reference status in the top class: "To the sound of the Temptations I could now write extravagantly blissfully, just so much: Wow!"
