Cat h PM 110
This is an inexpensive 3-way shelf loudspeaker box (B:26 H:44 D:21.5cm with cover) with a 20 cm woofer (painted paper membrane, foam surround). Midrange and tweeter are also cone speakers with (but unpainted) paper cone. The aluminum bezels of mid- and woofers give the box some value. The woofer, as well as its aluminum surround, is actually fixed in the wooden case with metric screws and an internal weft nut. It is a closed box in which the individual chassis are connected in parallel. There is no real crossover, but the midrange and tweeter are separated by an upstream capacitor each. Inside there is a back wall decorated with walnut foiling and a kind of painter's fleece instead of insulation wool. The front wall is made of 16 mm chipboard, the side walls have a thickness of 12 mm.
They were distributed by Cat h-Lautsprecher GmbH in 8756 Kahl around 1990.
In an Internet forum it is claimed that Cat h loudspeakers were manufactured in the VEB Funkwerk Kölleda, i.e. in the GDR around 1988 and were intended for export (see: http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-55-7041.html ). This will be based on http://rk7.de/9465.html indirectly confirmed. The interior decoration (see above) corresponds to this.
The speakers were sold in 1989 for 89.00 DM per piece, which at that time could be considered very inexpensive given the representative appearance. For 99.00 DM per piece, a version with dome tweeter was also offered with the Cat h PM 130 at the same time.
Speaker data according to label:
Rated/music power handling: 70/110 watts,
Impedance: 8 ohms,
Frequency response: 35 - 22000 Hertz
Weaknesses The biggest weakness of this speaker is the foam surround of the woofer. It decomposes over the years. But you can save the speaker for little money by replacing the bead with a suitable new one (preferably a rubber bead). This must have a bead inner diameter of about 152 mm and a bead outer diameter of about 179 mm. Corresponding instruction videos can be found on Youtube.
