Technical data

The Digital Radio The digital radio, DAB for short, uses digital signals instead of the conventional analog transmission. The number of radio stations you can receive depends on your region. Due to the type of transmission of the transmitter signals, the number of receivable transmitters can double with DAB.

The digital radio offers a whole series of fundamental improvements over conventional analog reception:

Better sound quality DAB offers excellent sound quality. With this technology, the receiver picks up the strongest signal and at the same time ignores all the others. The result is a trouble–free reception - at any place. So no more hissing and cracking as well as fluctuating the volume as with the old analog reception. The bit rates at DAB have been hotly discussed in the Hi-Fi trade magazines. Recordable broadcasts (not in mono) require a transmission rate of 120 kbps or more. This value was set by the regulatory authorities – but most radio stations already significantly exceed this threshold.

More choice Thanks to the use of the new digital technology, the transmission of DAB is particularly efficient. As a result, the possibility of receiving channels, national and regional, is noticeably increased. In some areas, there is the (by no means unpleasant) agony of choice among more than 40 digital channels, more than double that available to most with traditional FM reception. And this is not just a mere doubling of the number. Because there is diversity in digital radio! So you will not only be able to find your well-known favorite channels with a crystal-clear reception, but now a whole new world of programs serving special interests is also available to you.

Easier to use At DAB, you can find the station by the station name. So you no longer have to remember the frequency of your favorite station as before, but you can find the desired program in a flash by selecting it by name. Everything superfluous has been abolished, because they remember the station name rather than the station frequency. And with digital radio, there are no more frequencies. You simply select the station based on the station list in the display.

More further information With DAB you have much more information belonging to the program at your disposal than when receiving with RDS. DAB radios always have a display on which information about the station and the program is displayed. Many stations also broadcast the name of the artist, the title of the current piece – and sometimes even the next title. When you listen to an opera on a classical station, the piece, the composer, the performers, the orchestra, the conductor - in some cases even a translation of the text – are often displayed on the display! This technology will be developed even more in the future: additional, expanded information and the ability to program your radio for recording your favorite programs.
