The fourth edition of the Bose 901, a direct and indirect radiating loudspeaker, which was introduced in 1968, was presented two years after its predecessor. The speaker housings and the HVC drivers were taken from the Series III. The equalizer of the Series IV has been greatly revised. The control range is now ±8 decibels. Visually, it is distinguished by a continuous black stripe on the aluminum front.

"It's amazing what sonority comes out of such a small box. I was particularly impressed by the powerful bass reproduction, with which low frequencies become physically tangible. Even doors are beginning to vibrate and shelves are rattling. A bass drum stands in its full size in the room and makes the eardrum tremble. In addition to the enormous bass reproduction, I noticed the oversized spatiality that is artfully produced by this speaker. From a small living room, the Bose conjures up a huge hall. The listener really believes that he is standing in the middle of the concert hall."
